Caterham School Records Excellent A Level Results

The 126 students at Caterham School who took their A Level examinations this year were able to celebrate another remarkable set of results.

All students passed.

Headmaster Julian Thomas said: ‘’This was another excellent year for A level results at Caterham School. Following the record breaking results of last year I am pleased to see that an exceptionally high standard has been maintained. It is a wonderful achievement, not only for the students who have worked so hard but also for the staff who have supported and encouraged them in their endeavours.

At Caterham we focus on developing the whole person, aiming to ensure that each pupil leaves here ready for life at university and beyond with life skills to help him or her succeed in whatever they may do in the future. Therefore I am particularly pleased that once again all students will be progressing to university. It is too early to be certain but the indications are that, once again, more than 90% will be progressing to their first choice university.

I am pleased to say that, having seen our record breaking results for this year’s AS examinations, next year could be another exceptional year.’’

Pupils set a new record for A* - A grades in 2009 GCSE results

The 108 pupils at Caterham School who took their GCSE exams this year had cause for a double celebration. Not only were they able to celebrate their own excellent results, they can also celebrate that they had contributed to the best ever GCSE performance by pupils at Caterham School.

Headmaster Julian Thomas said: ‘’I am delighted with these results because they will be of significant help to the pupils when they apply to leading universities in two years. All the universities in the top tier are looking for outstanding GCSE results to support high A level grades so I am particularly pleased to see that the proportion of grades at A* has doubled since 2005.

I think that it is worth bearing in mind that the majority of pupils were studying 9, 10 or 11 subjects to ensure that they had a broad and balanced curriculum and 36% achieved A* or A grades for all their subjects. Nowadays few schools are able to offer high quality teaching in the Classics so it is particularly gratifying to see that the Caterham School pupils who opted to take Latin or Greek did very well with 25 of the 30 entries graded at A*. Once again all pupils achieved at least 7 A*-C grades including English Language and Maths.‘’
